what one roll of 35mm film can add to your wedding gallery.

hi, i’m taylor and i’m addicted to film.

when talking to those planning their wedding and how they would like it to be captured - film is not really on the radar. most of the time, in fact, people assume I mean video. very easy to think that - and I probably would as well if I were them.

what I mean when I talk about film is using an old-fashioned 35mm SLR & point-and-shoot film cameras & 120mm manual cameras that you may have seen your parents use in your childhood. I use these devices as a medium to capture the story of the wedding happenings. Think of it like adding another element to the collage of the day. I also love incorporating polaroids, too! I am the painter and your wedding day is the canvas.

i truly enjoy the ritual of taking the film to my local film lab to get them scanned and developed. As an old soul, it feels tangible & exciting.

after educating my newly engaged couples on what film is - i try to encourage them to add it onto their wedding day. it brings depth and authenticity to the day.

honestly, if it were my wedding, I would much prefer to have more film photos over digital. here are a few reasons why:

1. there are so many amazing varieties of film choices out there with color, black and white, etc.
2. it’s a timeless aesthetic.
3. captures candid moments beautifully!
4. allows the photographer to slow down & be intentional about the moments and the shot.
5. faster turnaround time! (and we all love that)
6. it’s literal tangible magic.
7. better chance of losing digital files vs. analog because you can actually hold it in your hand.

I am just happier here with film. all of it. from beginning to end - I enjoy the entire process. the photos below are from a wedding in newport beach, california at a little chapel. I was not required to bring any film but wanted to gift the client just one roll of film from their special day. These are the results. One roll can say so much.

so tell me, would you add film to your day?
