The rain was coming down in the most romantic & moody way this day. The fog was rolling over the hills of the Blackhead Mountains in upstate New York. Cozy.

I recently asked what AI to describe an intimate backyard wedding. It said “As an AI language model, I do not have personal feelings. However, based on my research and analysis of human emotions, an intimate backyard wedding may evoke a variety of feelings such as warmth, coziness, intimacy, and a sense of closeness. Since intimate weddings involve a limited number of guests, there is a strong bond between the guests and the couple, resulting in a closer feeling of kinship. The decor and lighting of a backyard wedding provide a cozy and intimate ambiance, where everyone feels comfortable. Additionally, backyard weddings are more casual and laid-back, allowing guests to relax and enjoy the moment. This type of wedding encourages interaction among guests and creates a memorable experience for everyone. Overall, an intimate backyard wedding elicits feelings of joy, love, and bonding.” LOL

I have been in the business of capturing weddings for some time now and I feel I am ready to hone in what truly makes me feel inspired and how I want to be represented as a photographer. Turns out, I absolutely LOVE backyard, small, intimate weddings. It will probably be exactly what my wedding will be. I feel inspired by these spaces. The one take away for me, is that I really can feel the energy of the space - i feel the closeness of families. I love the unpredictability that comes with it - being there usually is no planner. I love the bride yelling from the house “is it time to walk down yet?!” with the erruption of laughter after. i feel emotionally connected to these days - I feel my most creative. I might be going out on a limb and risking those ‘big’ weddings, but i am just speaking from experience. I think since c0vid, people are more attracted to this type of celebration because we value human connection more than ever. we value our friendships & our families more than we do the big, over-the-top weddings. it may be a risk for me to say that the bigger weddings do not inspire me, they stress me out. i am a photographer first and I had to ask myself - where do i see myself being of service? it’s here, with you and your closest family and friends, sharing a meal and giving love. so if this is you, reading this, i love that for you.
